Tamar Sulukhia, Director of ISET and ISET Policy Institute, participated in a high-level panel discussion at the SITE 2024 Development Day Conference in Stockholm, focusing on the European Union accession paths of Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova. The conference, titled "Forging a Road to a Brighter Future: The Path of Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia to European Union Membership," was held in Stockholm on December 4, 2024.
Sulukhia contributed to panel discussion: "The State of the Reform Process and How Sweden and EU Can Be Supportive," alongside distinguished speakers including Moldova's Ambassador to the Nordic Countries Liliana Gutan, and Katarina Areskoug from the High Level Advisory Group of the Nordic-Baltic Eight on Ukraine's accession to the EU.
The panel addressed critical aspects of the reform processes in the three EU candidate countries, with particular attention to how Sweden and the EU can provide support during the accession journey. This discussion was especially timely, coming in the wake of Georgia's receipt of EU candidate status in December 2023 and recent developments in the country. Tamar Sulukhia addressed Georgia's ongoing commitment to democracy and its European aspirations, emphasizing that any revisions to the current visa-free travel regime would significantly discourage Georgian youth, who are instrumental to the country's democratic and European future.
The conference brought together high-level government officials, including Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, along with prominent academics and policy experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the EU integration process.
