On November 29, 2022, ISET Policy Institute hosted the event Gender Equality in the South Caucasus and Beyond: New Tools for Policy Research that brought together the policy community, experts, NGOs, academia, and development partners. The activity is supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
The event was opened with welcoming notes by Tamar Sulukhia, Director of ISET and ISET Policy Institute, and Danielle Meuwly, Regional Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in the South Caucasus. Yaroslava Babych from the ISET Policy Institute research team presented a new gender economics research portal for the South Caucasus featuring the South Caucasus Gender Equality Index (SCGEI) and Region in Transition Gender Equality Index (RTGEI). Davit Keshelava briefed the audience on Gender Equality Index for the South Caucasus, while Levan Tevdoradze overviewed the underlying reasons why women are under-represented in political offices in Georgia and worldwide generally.
The event also featured a policy panel discussion on ‘resources for empowering women composed of leading experts from local and international organizations: Renata Skardziute-Kereselidze, Deputy Director, Georgian Institute of Politics, Nani Bendeliani, Project Analyst, UN Women, Maia Eristavi, Civil Society Strengthening Component Lead, the USAID Economic Governance Program, and Samira Bayramova, Civil Rights Activist, Human Rights Defender. The panel discussion was moderated by Tamar Sulukhia, Director, ISET and ISET Policy Institute.
