The study analyzes pecuniary economic costs and benefits associated with new policies on maternity, paternity, and parental leave in Georgia, using a state-of-the-art methodology utilized in EU member countries.

The aim of the study is to provide technical assistance to UNFPA and the Gender Equality Council of the Parliament of Georgia in analyzing the pecuniary economic costs and benefits associated with the new policies on maternity, paternity, and parental leave in Georgia. The study contributes to evidence-based policymaking practices in Georgia by elaborating economic costs associated with the current legislation (baseline scenario) and providing an analysis of several alternative scenarios associated with proposed legislation on maternity/paternity/parental leave. The methodology of the study is based on one of the most comprehensive impact assessment studies of introducing fully paid maternity/paternity leave in the context of ten European member countries.
