October 2025 | Khachapuri Index upward trend continues
31 October 2025

In October 2025, the cost of preparing one standard Imeretian khachapuri reached 7.3 GEL, reflecting a 3.5% increase from September 2025 and a 10.3% rise compared to October 2024.

On an annual basis, prices for nearly all ingredients increased, except for milk, which declined by 2.4%, marking the fifth consecutive month of year-on-year decline, likely linked to the “Milk Scandal” that occurred in April 2025. Among the remaining ingredients, butter recorded the highest annual price increase (+16.6%), followed by cheese (+13.3%), flour (+10.3%), eggs (+4.3%), and yeast (+2.7%).

The monthly changes observed in the Khachapuri Index are typical for this time of year. The main driver of the October increase was the 5.6% rise in cheese prices. As domestic dairy production declines seasonally, the index tends to maintain an upward trajectory during autumn. Most ingredients also experienced monthly price increases, except for milk and flour, which decreased by 4.0% and 1.7%, respectively.

Across cities, the highest monthly increase was observed in Kutaisi (+4.8%), followed by Telavi (+4.6%) and Tbilisi (+3.1%). The smallest rise occurred in Batumi (+1.7%), which can be explained by the end of the tourist season, while in Kakheti (Telavi), the Rtveli (grape harvest) festivities influenced local tourism patterns and demand.

Looking ahead, seasonal reductions in domestic dairy production are expected to continue driving price increases for cheese and milk, the key ingredients in khachapuri, over the coming months.
