September 2025 | Khachapuri Index rises for the third consecutive month
30 September 2025

In September 2025, the average cost of preparing a standard portion of Imeretian khachapuri reached 7.05 GEL. Starting from July 2025, the Khachapuri Index followed an upward trend, with prices increasing by 12.3% in September compared to June 2025. This rise was primarily driven by a 16.1% increase in cheese prices over the same period. Typically, as autumn approaches, dairy product prices rise due to the need for additional animal feed supplements.

In addition to seasonal factors, the average price of khachapuri in September 2025 was 8.7% higher than in September 2024. A closer look at the data reveals annual price increases across all khachapuri ingredients except milk, which declined by 0.3%. This marks the fourth consecutive month of year-on-year decline in milk prices, likely linked to the “Milk Scandal” that occurred in April 2025. In contrast, prices rose for butter (17.5%), flour (14.8%), cheese (9.4%), eggs (4%), and yeast (3.3%).

Across Georgian cities, the Khachapuri Index showed mixed dynamics in September 2025. Prices remained almost unchanged in Tbilisi (+0.03%), indicating stabilization after earlier increases. Moderate growth was recorded in Batumi (+2.4%) and Telavi (+3.2%), reflecting seasonal factors and regional demand. The most pronounced rise occurred in Kutaisi (+14.9%), where prices surged sharply. Given Kutaisi’s role as a key milk-producing region, this increase is expected to gradually trigger price growth in other cities as well in the coming months.
