June 2025 | Khachapuri Index continues its seasonal decline
30 June 2025

In June 2025, the average cost of cooking one standard portion of Imeretian khachapuri stood at 6.28 GEL. The Khachapuri Index continued its downward trend for the fourth consecutive month. However, on an annual basis, the average price was still 4.7% higher than in June 2024.

Compared to the same month last year, prices for half of the ingredients increased. The most notable rise was in cheese prices, up by 7.7%, followed by eggs (+5%) and butter (+3.6%). Meanwhile, flour (-2.5%), milk (-1.1%), and yeast (-0.5%) saw year-on-year declines.

On a monthly basis, prices of all key ingredients declined, except for butter, which increased slightly by 2.3%. Cheese prices dropped by 3.1%, and milk by 0.6%. These decreases are largely seasonal, reflecting increased domestic milk production during this time of year.

The sharpest decline in cheese prices was observed in Kutaisi, with a 13.3% year-on-year and a 9.3% month-on-month drop. As Imereti is the largest milk-producing region in Georgia, seasonal fluctuations in cheese prices tend to be more pronounced in Kutaisi than in other parts of the country. This trend suggests that the Khachapuri Index may continue to decline in the coming months, as falling cheese prices in Kutaisi are likely to influence prices nationwide.
