In October 2018, Georgian power plants generated 783 mln. kWh of electricity. This represents a 5% decrease in total generation, compared to the previous year (in 2017, total generation in October was 828 mln. kWh). The decrease in generation on a yearly basis comes from and decrease in hydropower (-1%) and thermal power generation (-17%), more than offsetting the increase in WPP generation (+4%).

On October 2, 2018, Georgian Water and Power (GWP) opened a new hydropower dam in Bodorna (Dusheti region). The construction of the new dam started in December 2017, with the support of the Entrepreneurial Development Bank (FMO) and the German Investment and Development Bank (DEG), for a total investment of 10 million GEL.

This represents a 3% increase in total generation, compared to the previous year (in 2017, total generation in September was 820 mln. kWh). The increase in generation on a yearly basis comes from an increase in wind power (+18%) and thermal power generation (+50%), more than offsetting the decline in HPP generation (-4%).

In August 2018, Georgian power plants generated 985 mln. KWh of electricity. This represents a 5% decrease in total generation, compared to the previous year (in 2017, total generation in August was 1,034 mln. kWh). The decrease in generation on a yearly basis mainly comes from a decrease in hydropower and wind power generation (more details in the report below).

This represents a 2% increase in total generation, compared to the previous year (in 2017, total generation in July was 1,247 mln. kWh).
