The budget for the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture (MEPA) amounted to 698.5 million GEL (an increase of 10.0 million GEL) in 2023. Most of the assigned budget was distributed toward the following areas:
- Food safety, plant protection, and epizootic safety - 63.5 mln. GEL;
- Development of viticulture and winemaking - 67.4 mln. GEL;
- Unified agricultural project - 346.4 mln. GEL.
- Modernization of the amelioration system - 95.0 mln. GEL;
- Environmental supervision - 26.0 mln. GEL;
- Establishment and management of protected areas - up to 31.5 mln. GEL;
- Development and management of the forestry system - up to 21.0 mln. GEL;
- State program for sustainable land management and land use monitoring - 4.4 mln. GEL.
The largest share of MEPA funding has traditionally been directed towards the Rural Development Agency (RDA), Georgian Amelioration (GA), and the National Wine Agency (NWA), with respective shares of 53%, 14%, and 10%.
The budget for the unified agricultural project, implemented by the RDA, is distributed among different agricultural development projects, namely: preferential agro-credits - 200.0 mln. GEL; agricultural insurance - 12.0 mln. GEL; the “Plant the Future” project - 35.0 mln. GEL; co-financing projects for processing and storage enterprises - 25.0 mln. GEL; promoting development in the agro sector - 10.0 mln. GEL; co-financing agricultural mechanization - 17.0 mln. GEL; and promoting hazelnut production - 20.0 mln. GEL.
The financing of environmental protection programs within the Ministry’s allocation increased by 10.8 million GEL compared to the first version of the 2023 budget project, and it amounted to 92.7 million GEL.

Citrus production in Georgia is currently experiencing a declining trend, despite the implementation of a tangerine state subsidy program. Under the program, farmers receive 30 instead of 15 tetri for 1 kg of non-standard (low-quality) tangerines.

Rtveli 2023 commenced this August. Similar to previous years, the Government of Georgia (GoG) is subsidizing the grape harvest again to support farmers who have suffered from worsening climate conditions. Based on information from MEPA representatives, the subsidy's primary aim is to guarantee that even producers with lower-quality grapes can still sell their products.

In June 2023, the National Statistics Office of Georgia issued its annual publication on the agricultural sector – Agriculture of Georgia 2022. The publication estimates that agriculture, forestry, and fishing comprised 7.5% of the GDP (constant prices) in 2022, which is lower than the 8% share in 2021, but in line with general trends over the last few years (agricultural GDP being 7-8% of GDP on average).

Hazelnuts are one of the most important crops for Georgia in terms of export: between 2010-2021, they accounted for around 4.4% of total exports (GeoStat, 2022). In 2013, the quantity of exported hazelnuts reached its maximum level (30 ths. tons), in the following years, it then decreased to 19 ths. tons alongside an increase in value, thus indicating higher prices per exported kg of Georgian hazelnut.

The National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat) recently published its economic review for II Quarter 2022. Their publication highlights that agricultural production increased by 10.9% in the second quarter of the year compared to the same period of 2021.
