ISET students Ana Akoposhvili and Ketevan Melkadze came second place in the Mariam Kutelia Research Grant competition. They took part during their internship at a USAID-funded project, Restoring Efficiency to Agricultural Production. The purpose of the competition was to write proposals on how to improve the current state of the Georgian agricultural sector. The ISET students were awarded another paid internship at the Agricultural Policy Research Center (APRC) between April 15 and June 15.

ბიზნესის განწყობის ინდექსი საქართველოში [-100; +100] სკალაზე 2016 წლის პირველ კვარტალთან შედარებით 12 პროცენტული ერთეულით გაუმჯობესდა. საქართველოს კერძო სექტორის ბიზნესის მოლოდინების ინდექსი გაუმჯობესდა 12 ერთეულით და 50 ინდექსის ერთეულს მიუახლოვდა.

On June 15, 2016, ISET held a press conference to discuss recent economic indicators of Georgia. In the second quarter of 2016, the two most important economic barometers of consumer and business sentiment in Georgia – the Business Confidence Index (BCI) and the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) continued to steadily improve.

XIX საუკუნის ბოლოს ამერიკელმა ეკონომისტმა, ტორსტეინ ვებლენმა (1857-1929) წარმოადგინა ძალიან საინტერესო თეორია, თუ რატომ სვამენ და ეწევიან ადამიანები საზოგადოებრივი თავშეყრის ადგილებში. ამ შესანიშნავი ნაშრომის მეოთხე თავში „წარმატებული კლასის თეორია“ (1899) ის ამტკიცებს, რომ ღარიბებს მოწევითა და სმით სურთ, თავი მდიდრებად გაასაღონ, რადგან ღარიბებს არ აქვთ საშუალება, იყიდონ ფუფუნების ისეთი საგნები, როგორიცაა ალკოჰოლი და თამბაქო.

On Thursday June 9th, Professor Bruce Boghosian of Tufts University gave a presentation entitled "The Statics and Dynamics of Wealth Distribution", a fascinating topic which detailed the use of an innovative approach to investigate inequality dynamics. Professor Boghosian first reviewed the history of measuring inequality, and discussed the works of well-known scholars of the field such as Pareto, Gibrat, Lorenz, and Gini, and then shared his own fascinating research with the audience. Though the mathematical rigour of the models was interesting, the results were fascinating; Boghosian showed that under certain conditions (when total wealth is unchanged and transactions between economic agents are conducted with few mistakes), societies are consistently prone to wealth concentration and Gini coefficient trends increase.
