In January 2018, Georgian power plants generated 1,014 mln. KWh of electricity. This corresponds to a 6% increase in total generation, compared to the previous year (in 2017, total generation in January was 955.5 mln. kWh). The increase in generation on a yearly basis comes from increase in wind and hydro power generation.

ISET Alumnus Granted Research Scholarship at National Science Foundation

Tsotne Marghia, of the Class 2018, decided to apply for an MA research scholarship at the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, following in the footsteps of another ISET student last year. Tsotne succeeded in being granted the scholarship, allowing him to purchase the necessary books and papers, as well as having the opportunity to attend conferences abroad.

Electricity Tariffs Have Increased in Georgia

Since January 2018, electricity tariffs have increased in Georgia. The new tariffs were determined by the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) on December 27 2017 based on a review of applications submitted by the country’s distribution companies (JSI Telasi and Energo-Pro Georgia). In Tbilisi, the tariff has increased by 1.56 tetri per kWh and in regions by 1.28 Tetri per kWh.
