October 2018 GDP Forecast | Georgia’s growth pojections still optimistic, but the downside risks Are significant

Growth projections for the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2018 were revised downward by less than 0.1 percentage points. They now stand at 7.2% and 6.4% respectively. Recently, Geostat published its preliminary estimate of real GDP growth for August, which now stands at 2%. As a result, the real GDP growth estimate for the first eight months of 2018 was reduced to 4.8%.

New Hydropower Dam in Georgian Energy System

On October 2, 2018, Georgian Water and Power (GWP) opened a new hydropower dam in Bodorna (Dusheti region). The construction of the new dam started in December 2017, with the support of the Entrepreneurial Development Bank (FMO) and the German Investment and Development Bank (DEG), for a total investment of 10 million GEL.

Inception Workshop on RIA on Windbreaks

On October 4, 2018, the ISET’s Salome Gelashvili and Pati Mamardashvili gave a presentation during an inception workshop, “Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) of the Draft Law on Windbreaks”. This RIA was commissioned to the APRC team by REC Caucasus and implemented with financial support from the IFAD in the framework of the AMMAR project.
