ISET Policy Institute together with Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Georgia offers free of charge training program "Leaders in Development". The program is designed for anybody who is involved in, or is affected by, public policy decisions: government analysts and decision-makers, parliament staffers, private sector executives, civil society activists, as well as development professionals working in international organizations. The ten modules of the program tackle some of the most important challenges of Georgia’s economic development, with a focus on how policy decisions (or indecision) directly and indirectly affect Georgian society, businesses and households. For example, we will discuss the implications of changes in tax administration and taxation (corporate, income, excise, VAT) on prices, investment, domestic production and consumption, human capital and labor supply.

Teaching Development Program at ISET

ISET faculty attended Teaching Development Program on September 21-25, 2015 conducted by Deborah Nováková – head of the Academic Skills Center at CERGE-EI.The course consisted of a series of collaborative workshops, grounded in Economics Education literature. The topics covered during the program included: Preparing Courses and Classes and Tools for Teaching, Handling Difficult Groups, Cheating and Plagiarism, Assessing Students, Evaluating Teachers, and several others. The workshops provided a platform for discussion on how the main findings in the literature relate to the specific teaching realities of each participant. Each session was followed by a group discussion and presentation of case studies.

ISET Policy Institute Conducts Trainings for the Business Association of Georgia (BAG)

In the frames of the memorandum of understanding between ISET Policy Institute and Business Association of Georgia (BAG), ISET-PI offered a compressed four-day training to the staff of the association. Senior researchers of the policy institute, Maya Grigolia and Nino Doghonadze conducted the training in the macroeconomics 101. The topics of the training included: GDP, unemployment, inflation, economic growth, investment, monetary and fiscal policy, international trade and exchange rates, etc. The training took place at BAG office and 8 staff members participated. The process was very dynamic, interactive and interesting, enriched by the vast experience of the BAG staff. The training was successfully completed on May 11, 2015. Acquired knowledge will help BAG staff to solidify their arguments with economic rationale in the process of advocating for the business community. ISET is looking forward to deepening the fruitful cooperation with BAG.

Cost-Benefit Analysis for Government Professionals

In cooperation with the German Economic Team Georgia (GET Georgia) and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, ISET-PI is offering a course in Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) for Government Professionals. The course has been designed for economists in Georgian ministries who evaluate investment projects. Participants will learn how to design and conduct a CBA. This will enable professionals in ministries not only to conduct such analyses themselves, but also to achieve a more profound understanding of evaluations based on this tool performed by third parties. This will also help them, where necessary, to write more comprehensive terms of reference for CBAs to be conducted by contractors. The trainings started on January 30, 2015 and the intensive course was delivered over a 3-week period at ISET.

Training for the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia

The training Value Chain Analysis delivered by Agricultural Policy Research Centre (APRC) at ISET Policy Institute. The project was funded by FAO Georgia. It took place in September-October 2014. APRC team conducted trainings in VCA for staff of the Georgian Ministry of Agriculture (MoA). The aim of this training was to familiarize participants with various qualitative and quantitative tools of Value Chain Analysis. 12 employees from different departments of MoA were trained.
